On June 26, 2010, I entered the Core Sound Hunting Rig of Six Competition. It was a competition I had never entered before, but knowing the strong history of decoy down in Harkers Island and the established success of the Core Sound Decoy Show, I thought it would be a pretty cool event -- and trip!
I entered one rig -- of scoters. I'd had some luck with a pair of Scoters at Ward's World Decoy Festival in April, and was enjoying carving them.
And, here's a shot of the rig on the water the day of the competition. I got lucky, I guess, in choosing Scoters, since they sit so wide and ride so evenly in choppy water! They really rode the water well. . .can you find them?
(I borrowed these photos from the Harker's Island Decoy Carver's Guild's Facebook page. I will happily credit the photographer - just let me know.)
Annnnd. . .the good. . .great. . .no, AWESOME news is I WON! My first First Place Best-in-Show. So excited. Here's a shot of the whole rig (again, compliments of Core Sound Decoy Carver's Guild [www.decoyguild.com])
Those of you who know me can confirm this -- I AM smiling in this picture!
